Energy Department Invests in Rural and Tribal Grid Resilience

Grant funding is allotted under infrastructure legislation.

The Department of Energy announced that 11 projects will receive the first round of grants from the Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula program. A total of $77 million will be distributed to upgrade rural and tribal electric grids, making them more resilient to extreme weather and more able to support renewable energy infrastructure. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill allocated $2.3 billion to this grant program, allowing the department to distribute funding to other eligible recipients over the next five years.

“As climate change threats intensify and we add more renewable energy to our power system, it is critical that the American people have a safe and resilient electric grid,” said Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm. “Thanks to President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, the Department is announcing a stream of investments to assist States and tribes in modernizing the nation’s transmission system and preparing the U.S. for its clean energy future.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Granholm to be led by the Lord as she oversees the awarding of grants.
  • For U.S. energy officials as they advise the president on America’s power resilience.
  • For wisdom for those who will apply the grants to strengthening rural and tribal power grids.
